DIRECTIONS: great for to-go meals. do not microwave. DISPOSAL: extremely durable, but can be recycled with other metal recycling.
IMPACT: As if there isn't already enough plastic with our to-go meals, food containers just add another element of plastic trash. According to the EPA, containers and packaging make up a major portion of municipal solid waste (MSW), amounting to 82.2 million tons of generation in 2018 (28.1 percent of total generation).
Quick info on stainless, to the best of our research:
- 430 or 18/0 is 18% chromium; no nickel
- 304 or 18/10 or 18/8 is 18% chromium and 10% and 8% nickel, respectively,
- 200 series is stronger and less corrosive and better value but can rust or discolor more easily so wash and dry before after use. These have 3.5-5.5% nickel; 16-18% chrome and 5.5-7.5 manganese.

These work so amazingly well!! Truly a phenomenal product that has liberated me from toxic, environmentally devestating plastic food storage bags. I love that the stainless steel is non-porous whereas plastic is, so these containers are going to actually protect my food way better, not to mention protecting them from micro plastics leaching. They are beautiful to look at and easy to use. And I also love that I can set them on top of counters or shelves, which makes room for cupboard space because the stainless steel completely blocks out light, therefore light sensitive items don’t have to be stored in a dark cupboard as long as they’re in these. I am also using these for freezer storage which I’m really excited about because again I cannot stand the chemically made plastic bags anymore that always have quality issues with and end up ruining food in the long-term whether by air exposure or making the food eventually taste like plastic. These onyx containers are, no exaggeration, life changing. They fit a lot in them, too! And theybhave a beautiful old fashioned vibe about them… I don’t mean the way they look they look like they could go with any style, including modern, I mean, just the quality of the item and the fact that it’s not throw away waste and just something you can count on and use that is functional and lasts, it just gives such an old-fashioned sense of peace.

Bought the XL after the plastic Tupperware I used to store cookies gave the cookies a moldy flavor. Item came quickly and I was able to store a whole batch of cookies with plenty of room. Very sturdy
